Job Description:

JetBlue is seeking a manager with experience in crisis communications, issues management, and social media to join its Corporate Communications team.  The candidate should have experience managing high profile incidents or crisis to help direct narrative, and prepare for stories that may hit the news or trend across social channels.  The manager will help the team manage response to a variety of potentially newsworthy operational incidents and events that could impact the company’s reputation or internal culture. The candidate should have strong writing skills and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. The nature of the work also requires an ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, inside and outside traditional work hours. Expertise in digital/social media as well as media relations is essential for this role.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Advise senior leaders on negative events and prepare them for media interviews
  • Collaborate with the social media customer support team and brand team on social media strategy and response
  • Develop crisis preparedness plans and materials
  • Develop media and social media response strategies, reactive media statements, talking points, FAQs, memos, crisis simulations and other deliverables as needed
  • Manage non-issues reactive media inquiries as needed
  • Manage ongoing communications projects and assignments, as needed
  • Play key role in managing response to incidents or events as they arise
  • Represent Corporate Communications in companywide crisis simulations
  • Serve as media spokesperson
  • Work with legal, operational teams, business continuity and response teams, people team, and other teams as relevant on issues

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to collaborate with and build agreement across functions
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be available for emergency response on short notice;
  • Able to complete a work product assignment upon request
  • Available for overnight / international travel as needed (20%)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or relevant area of study
  • Comfort in working directly with JetBlue leaders and functional teams
  • Demonstrates attention to detail within a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Five (5) years of communications experience
  • Must be available occasionally for unplanned events, including incident and crisis response
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Strong team orientation collaborative approach across functions and teams
  • Thrives under pressure
  • Track record in crisis communications, issues management, media relations and social media

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience delivering media and crisis trainings
  • Experience supporting corporate leadership
  • Experience working in a public relations agency
  • Experience working with a mission-driven organization with a strong culture
  • Proven ability to work in an operationally complex setting
